R.J. Marx

Saxophonist R.J. Marx's love affair with jazz began in 1971 when he was still in high school. After classical and jazz studies with Bob Black and Chicago’s legendary Fred Anderson, Marx attended Berklee College of Music in Boston.
While pursuing a career in journalism, Marx maintained his lifelong interest in jazz, writing for the website Jazz Central Station and artist profiles for regional and national publications.
Marx returned to performance in 2001, continuing his studies with celebrated jazz pianist Pete Malinverni and saxophonists Ralph Lalama and Charlie Lagond.
Before moving to the Oregon Coast in 2015, R.J. played regularly at venues throughout the New York City region, including the Long Island Jazz WinterFest in 2013.
Marx has been a member of the Jazz Journalists Association for more than a decade.
